Sissi Prader, the Director of Women’s Museum of Merano, Astrid Schönweger, the curator, and Sabri Najafi, a member of the organization comittee of the prize HRI 2008, had a meeting with our mater of the congress, Shirin Ebadi, and her translater Ella Mohammadi at Venice on sunday, 28-09-08.

Topics were the HRI-Prize 2008 for Nasrin Sotoudeh and her coming to the presentation of prizes to Merano the 12th December. Mrs. Ella Mohammadi comes without charging anything to translate Mrs. Nasrin Sotoudeh. It is her contribution to the engagement of the women’s movement in Iran. Thank you very much, Ella!

Mrs. Shirin Ebadi explained that the women’s museum of Iran can be built in two years. There are four women who take part in the organization team. Also Shirin Ebadi is part of the organization-team. The women’s museum of Iran will be part of the network womeninmuseum.

There will be a financing of newsletter-abonnements for the women’s library of Iran.

Mrs. Shirin Ebadi agreed to be part again as mater of the International Women’s Forum of Merano which will be organized by the women’s museum of Merano in 2010.

30.09.2008  Omima Mustafa Ahmed writes: “Warm greeting form Sudan and the Sudanese women museum. It was pleasure to meet you during the first international congress of Women’s museums. I really apologize for delaying the translation of the resolution to Arabic Language I was so busy with my office work, so sorry for the delay.” We have not all translations until now, Omima, no problem! Good luck to the women’s museum of Sudan!

30.09.2008  Freda Dröes writes: “Sorry that you had to wait so long for a answer. First holidays and then exiting times. We got money from the municipal of Amsterdam to prepare an building and we are perhaps near in getting a building. I, as director of the FemArtMuseum (in construction) read you’re your resolution and the projects of network. I agree with them. I feel part of the network. I want to be on the flyer with the FemArtMuseum. But I have a board and I want to ask them if they agree also.” Dear Freda, so we wait for the answer of the board and we are happy that you feel yourself part of the network womeninmuseum!

30.09.2008

Catherine King from IMOW, San Francisco writes:

Thank you for keeping the network going strong and I intend to participate as I can. The blog is wonderful and I am grateful that you have been posting I.M.O.W. news. I also saw the note from Erin Skinner at the National Women’s History Museum and am interested to learn more about their plans. Because they focus on American women, and we are international in reach, our content is very different, but I hope we can forge a connection.
Our search for the permanent site in San Francisco continues, but the final building has not been selected. An opening date is hoped around 2012 but cannot be predicted.”
As we are no more allowed to change something on www.womeninmuseum.org we will do this in another place when we have it.

30.09.2008  Maritza Villavicencio from the Women’s Museum of Peru wrote to the Women’s Museum of Merano, that she is sad she couldn’t participate at the Congress in June 2008, but she wants to be part of the network womeninmuseum. So, we have another museum taking part in our network!

11.09.2008   There is a new initiative of women’s museum in Berlin (Germany) called “Frauenwelt. Ein Dokumentationszentrum der Hälfte der Menschheit e.V.” Contact person is Dr. Carolin Krings-Lazovsky. She visited the Women’s Museum of Merano and had a long talk with Sigrid Prader, the director of the museum. This initiative has a project of a exposition on wedding.

11.09.2008   We have a new member: the women’s museum of Peru: Museo Memoria de la Mujer Peruana. President is Maritza Villavicencio and she wants to have contact with the museums of the network!

Her Vote. Her Voice?

September Focuses on the Power of a Vote

Does voting really give women a voice? In September, the Women, Power and Politics global online exhibition looks at the women who have fought for the vote Then and Now and travels to Kuwait—the most recent nation to grant women the vote—for Kuwaiti Women’s 1st Election Day.

Our September podcast introduces you to Saudi Arabian business woman and activist Rasha Hifzi, who speaks from and about one of the few countries where women cannot vote.

Melinda Henneberger, U.S. political journalist and author of If They Only Listened to Us, gives us insight into what every political candidate is aching to know: What Women Voters Want. Pulitzer Prize nominee Susan Griffin, who just published her new book, Wrestling with the Angel of Democracy, takes on voter apathy by answering the question Why Vote?

Curator Masum Momaya makes voting personal by sharing her own voting experiences and asks what is on many women’s minds: Do Women’s Votes Really Matter? I.M.O.W. community participants from six countries answer with their inspiring Voting Memories. Share your own voting memories in our featured forum thread throughout the month.

Why So Few Women in Entertainment and Politics?

Girls’ Club Entertainment Asks for Your Thoughts

Help shape a new documentary project on women’s under-representation in entertainment and politics. Girls’ Club Entertainment, founded by I.M.O.W. Board Member Jennifer Siebel Newsom, makes the link between what we see on the silver screen and what plays out in the political arena. Both cast a picture of women’s exclusion from power and the need for change.

Read more about the issues in Girls’ Club Entertainment’s community story, Why So Few Women?, and share your thoughts in the featured forum thread.
