A new prize for the iranian women: The Alexander-Langer-Award 2009 goes to Narges Mohammadi!!!!
<!–[endif]–>
<!–[endif]–>The Scientific and Guarantee Committee of the Foundation has decided to bestow the international Alexander Langer award 2009 upon Narges Mohammadi, Iranian journalist as well as vice-president and spokeswoman of the Defenders of Human Rights Center, and president of the executive committee of the National Peace Council.
Narges Mohammadi was born in Zanjan. She became a professional engineer after graduating in physics at the International Imam Khomeini University. During her university studies she organized a university formation named Roshangaran and wrote articles for independent newspapers about the respect for the women and students rights. She was arrested twice in 2 university meetings.
As a journalist she wrote for various reformist journals, among these Payam-e Hajar. Later this publication was banned as it upheld fighting for the equality of women and the rights of all citizens regardless of their gender, political opinions and religion. She is also the author of political essays, i.a. The reforms, the strategy and the tactics, in Persian.
Because of her passion for the mountain, she organized climbs and took part in the ascent of the most important Iranian peaks. However, due to her political activity, later she was no longer allowed to take part in the official expeditions.
In 2001 Narges Mohammadi got married ti Taghi Rahmani. She knew him when he was teaching Civil Society courses, students were quite numerous at his lectures. Now they have two twins. Right after their marriage Rahmani was arrested. Only after a two- year custody he could come to know the accusations which had been leveled against him. He spend one thirds of his life in prison because of his critique against the theocratic regime. On the other hand, his repeated arrests have induced Narges Mohammadi to pay particular attention to the situation of the convicts, especially those for crimes of opinion, who are secluded- quoting her words- in the violation of “the most basic principles of law, with illegal imprisonments, without stating the accusation, without evidence, without a sentence, prohibiting the counsel for the defense to have the files of their clients“. Because of these criticisms and after her husband’s arrest, she was imprisoned in 1998 and sentenced to 1 year imprisonment. Nevertheless, this experience has given her a new strength to assist the dissidents imprisoned and their families.
Now she also works closely with Shirin Ebadi, recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003, and has become vice- president and spokeswoman of the Defenders of Human Rights Center. After the illegal shutdown of the center on 21st December 2008, the international press has reported her denunciations and declarations of protest.
On 7th September 2008 Narges Mohammadi was elected as president of the executive committee of the National Council of Peace in Iran, a broad coalition against war and for the promotion of human rights. It includes writers, artists, lawyers, social activists, women, students, trade unionists, representatives of ethnic minorities and political groups opposing to any military or terroristic action and preventive armed conflicts against Iran. In fact, these measures would not solve the nuclear crisis; on the contrary, they would upset the already fragile balance of the Persian Gulf Region and further worsen the human rights situation.
The National Peace Council wants the world to see “another Iran”, which is against any violent action and committed for the construction of peace, safety, stability and well-being through relationships based on tolerance and friendship.
Narges Mohammadi is convinced that the Iranian society deeply wants changes in favor of democracy and the full respect for human rights: “The Iranian society has been strongly claiming its right to democracy. Students, workers, teachers, women, youngsters have precise requests and the Government will have to give them an answer. A satisfactory answer. It is not the problem of an elitarian group, it is the problem of an entire nation“.

FEMINITIES
An exhbition about women’s roles.
The exhibition was shown in Austria during summer 2008 and would like to have other venues. It can be condensed to 300 m2 or it can be shown on up to 600 m2. 12 women’s roles have been identified to choose from. Most women combine some of them during certain periods of their lives. But as things chance, roles or the personal choice may change to. The exhibition shows 150 historical and mythological personalities, Indian godesses, empress Maria-Theresia, Marie Curie as well as Florence Nightingale, Mata Hari or the unknow mother. The spectator jumps from one culture to the next, from one epoch to an other one. She becomes aware that no moral rules can give the guideline whitch role to choose and that the possibilities are wide.
The exhibit was most enjoyed by women who accompanyied the social anthropologist who made the exhibition on the trip through different cultures without praising or condemning certain roles. Illustrated catalogue (in German) with Claudia Gehrke Konkursbuchverlag, editor of gender related books since 1975. (www.konkursbuch.com)

3rd letter to the women’s museums worldwide
The first exhibition of the women’s museums worldwide
“Idols – role model – heroes”
The first exhibition of the women’s museums shall not only represent the houses but also their contens. It shall show the main subject of the museums. With it the interest of the public is revived.
Each museum has got two fields:
1. Information about the separate house
2. Exhibits (photos, pictures etc.) to the subject « Idols – role models – female heroes »
1. The information of the women’s museums about their institutions, their “personal description”, is the basis of the whole project, and it is by no means only made for the museum’s specialist public. The documentations allow a look on the variety of the museums, show comparisons how the respective houses are built, what concerns their genesis, supporter, organization and financing, which are their contents and how they are embedded concerning culture and society.
For the documentations, that we want to shape uniformly, we require a lot of information material from each museum.
2. Idols – role models – heroes
The exhibition of the approx. 50 women’s museums worldwide shows portraits of the well-known women of their county. They can be fighters for women rights, pioneers, women in politics, science, medecine and technics, great women on social fields, artists (art, film, theatre, danse, music, literature, design and architecture) and the founders of the museums themselves.
Concerning the heroes certainly every museum can contribute. We also expect numerous goddesses of all five continents.
The portraits can be presented in form of photos, paintings or video films. (It would be nice if you gave us large photos.)
Facts
Each museum gets a hanging area of approx. 6 m and, if requested, a video beamer or a monitor.
We will make the catalogue as soon as we have the information material about your house and the “Idols – role models – heroes”.
Time: please send the information until 30th April 09 (it need not be complete)
Kind regards from Marianne Pitzen

During last November 2008 we moved to our new headquarters and we were very busy mending, painting and preparing the opening of the Museum of Women Argentina. The event was a success. We were also working to promote the creation of new Women’s Museums in Latin America and our friends in Costa Rica have been making progress in this area.
With respect to our II Congress in May 2010 I inform you all that it will be carried out in Buenos Aires from 19th. up to 22nd. of May 2010 with the submitting of papers, forums, and so on. We propose to let Sunday 23rd. free in order to visit the city, to go shopping or take a rest at the hotel, anything you would like and it would be your choice. Then on 24th. and 25th. we’ll be fresh and ready to attend the Congress of Women’s Museums.
The II Feminist International Congress 2010 has already its Thematic Program and Activities (attached), and now we are working hard on financial matters, these very difficult, taking into account the “world crisis”.
All women are invited to participate in these events and we look forward to receive their abstracts and proposals until, but not after, next April 30th.
On next May 2009 we’ll be delivering the Program Proposal for the Congress of Museums, and a draft of Plans for the diffusion of the event.
To celebrate the International Women’s Day we carried out an event in our Museum on 12th. last week. We exhibit a lot of photos of the First Congress of Women’s Museums that took place in Merano (Italy) 2008 and also photos of Members of different museums all over the world that attended the event in Merano. In the mentioned event here in B.A. we presented the creation of Librería deMujeres Editorial. Teresa Parodi a well known argentinian singer sang a lot of themes.

Intervista di Alessandra Farkas a Shirin Ebadi
Titolo: “Washington e Teheran seppelliscano il passato “
NEW YORK — «Il ponte lanciato da Barack Obama a Teheran sta già dando i suoi frutti».
