“The women are the ones who write the history of the world! There has to be a Women’s Museum in every country of this world! ” Shirin Ebadi Nobel peace prize winner, 2003, and “Godmother” of the 1st International Congress of Women’s Museums
General topics:
The logo of the 1st international Congress of Women’s Museums will become the logo of the worldwide network of Women’s Museums. Women’s Museums are important institutions all over the world and it is our aim to improve their visibility and acceptance in our societies.
· Women’s Museums are diverse; they reflect political, cultural, artistic, economic, and social roles and situations of women in the past and present. They preserve and generate women’s cultures, remove prejudices and contribute to the respect of women and human rights. They are a mirror of society and also of the changing of the world.
· Museums dedicated to important women all over the world are invited into our network.
· The Women’s Museums use the power of the 1st International Congress of Women’s Museums to increase their possibilities. They agree that we continue our network by interacting, learning from each other, transferring knowledge, sharing information and ideas, exchanging experiences and exhibitions, and planning together projects and exhibitions. Therefore the Women’s Museums will use the platform www.womeninmuseum.net*) installed at the 1st International Congress of Women’s Museums with all its instruments. The Women’s Museums show that globalization can be used in a good way.
· Respecting the diversities of each museum, the network created by the participants of the 1st International Congress of Women’s Museums wants to speak with one voice.
· The Women’s Museums agree to respect the project plan they established at the 1st International Congress of Women’s Museums.
· The Women’s Museums embrace female solidarity; they support each other. When one Women’s Museum is in trouble they will act as a network and protest for it, with petitions, resolutions, signatures, campaigns, etc.
· The network of Women’s Museums will protest against unauthorized copies of Women’s Museums.
· The Women’s Museums of the network commit themselves to give every possible support to women of other countries who don’t have a Women’s Museum to create one.
· The Women’s Museums ask that the governments of their countries support the infrastructures of Women’s Museums with solid funding.
· The network of the Women’s Museums want to be an affiliate association of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) to increase its possibilities and to be more recognized.
· The Women’s Museums commit to regularly organize an International Congress of Women’s Museums.
